- Boerhaavia diffusa – lowers blood pressure due to its diuretic properties
Conventional pharmaceuticals to manage blood pressure are one of the most common prescriptions given today. Common side effects from these medications include:
- Diuretics – weakness, fatigue, leg cramps, erection issues (men)
- Beta blockers – asthmatic symptoms, cold hands/feet, depression, insomnia, erection issues(men)
- ACE inhibitors – dry cough, skin rash, loss of taste
- ARBs – dizziness
- Calcium channel blockers- constipation, dizziness, headache, palpitations, swollen ankles
Are you aware that the commonly accepted readings for normal blood pressure are changing? Commonly, medical textbook values for blood pressure have stated 120/80 is considered normal. New research and analysis on heart health and heart attack prevention have now placed this reading at approximately 140/90.
In a Cochrane review done by Therapeutics Initiative in the department of pharmacy at UBC in 2009, it was determined that achieving blood pressure levels under 135/85, did not change mortality/morbidity rates over patients who had higher readings of 140-160/90-100.
Often, GP’s will put patients on blood pressure medication when the blood pressure numbers start to rise even slightly. A patient’s blood pressure medication prescription may then rise over time, trying to maintain the 120/80 reading. Unfortunately, as with all medications, side effects may start to become a challenging issue.
If your blood pressure has just started to creep up, look at other factors as well which may include:
- Diet (high salt intake)
- Hydration imbalance
- Exercise ( a lack of)
- Caffeine intake
- Alcohol intake
- Stress management
All have been shown to play a key role in heart health and blood pressure control. Make sure these areas are in check and then explore your options, including trying out Cardana Caps if it is the right fit for you.
